What is Assisted Living?
The assisted living community consists of the burgeoning number of seniors and people with physical and cognitive disabilities who require assistance to carry out activities of daily living—and all those who care for and about them. This assistance occurs in many forms: family, volunteer, and professional caregivers; trained animals; and a wide variety of devices. It is provided through a broad range of family arrangements, public and private services, insurers, product manufacturers, and agencies. And it occurs in many settings: homes, health and life care facilities, work and leisure environments.
The Promise of Technology
We believe that the goal of assisted living should be to provide the greatest degree of autonomy and dignity possible to the individual requiring assistance, while also reducing the burdens of caregivers. For this reason, CALI focuses on identifying, developing, integrating and implementing intelligent assistive technologies — along with enlightened practices and policies—that help to ease burdens and enrich lives.
